Branding  ·  Identity Case Study

A brand identity that makes a tech startup
look investor-ready from day one

First impressions in the tech space happen in seconds. Investors, partners, and early customers make a judgement call on the brand before they read a word of the pitch. This project was about making that first second count.

Tech startup brand identity — logo and visual identity system

What the client came with

An early-stage tech startup was preparing for their first investor meetings and product launch. They had a working product and a clear vision — but no brand. Their Canva-made logo wasn't cutting it in a room of professionals, and they needed an identity that would reflect the seriousness of what they were building.

The brand needed to feel modern, credible, and scalable — something that could go on a pitch deck, a website, business cards, and social media without looking out of place in any of them.

Their words

"We're meeting investors next month and our current branding looks like we built it in an afternoon. We need something that says: we're serious, we're ready, and we know what we're doing."

What we received — and what we built

The client had a company name, a product concept, and strong ideas about the positioning. Everything visual was created from scratch — from the first sketch to the final brand guide PDF.

What we received
  • Company name and product concept brief
  • Target audience and competitor references
  • Mood board with 5 visual direction examples
  • Brand personality keywords (3 chosen by client)
  • Use-case list: website, pitch deck, social media
What we built
  • Primary logo (full mark + icon-only variant)
  • Logo in light, dark, and monochrome versions
  • Complete colour system (primary, secondary, neutral)
  • Typography system (headline + body font pairing)
  • Brand guide PDF with usage rules and examples
  • All files in vector + export-ready formats

How we built an identity that says the right things without saying them

Strong startup branding isn't about looking cool — it's about communicating the right values to the right audience without needing to explain them. Every decision, from colour to typeface to logomark, was made to signal specific qualities: precision, momentum, reliability.

01
Day 1–2
Brand Direction

Translated the client's product positioning into 3 distinct visual directions. Each direction came with a rationale, not just a mood board — so the client could choose with confidence, not just preference.

02
Day 3–5
Logo Development

Developed the chosen direction into a full logomark — wordmark, icon, and combination mark. Refined through two rounds of client feedback until every detail was right, not just good enough.

03
Day 5–7
Colour & Typography

Built the full colour system and paired it with a typography combination tested across all the client's use cases — pitch deck slides, website headers, and small-screen readability all checked.

04
Day 8–10
Brand Guide & Handoff

Packaged everything into a clear brand guide with usage rules, colour codes, font links, and export-ready files in every format needed. The client walked away knowing exactly how to apply the brand.

From makeshift to market-ready

The shift wasn't just visual — it was strategic. A brand that signals competence earns more attention, gets taken more seriously, and opens doors that a generic logo simply won't.

Before
  • Canva-built logo that looked generic and temporary
  • No consistent colour system — different shades used everywhere
  • Mixed fonts across documents with no rationale
  • No brand guide — team applied the brand inconsistently
  • Logo only existed in one low-resolution format
  • Visual identity didn't reflect the ambition of the product
After
  • Professional logomark that holds up at any size or context
  • Complete colour system with HEX, RGB, and CMYK codes
  • Defined typography pairing for every use case
  • Brand guide ensures consistent application across the team
  • All logo variants in vector, PNG, and dark/light formats
  • Brand that communicates what the product actually is

An identity the team can use with confidence everywhere

The client went into their investor meetings with a brand that matched the quality of their pitch. The branding hasn't just looked better — it's been applied consistently across the website, deck, and social media without anyone asking "which version should I use?"
